Ever looked back and thought, ‘That was the moment that changed my life’? In Grant Thornton’s new My Big Decision series, we’re asking prominent business individuals about the critical moment that changed their lives forever.

Fons Trompenaars opens the series of monologues. He is one of the world’s leading commentators on cultural diversity in business and co-founder of Trompenaars Hampden-Turner, which advises companies such as Unilever, General Motors, Heineken, Nissan and British Airways on cross-cultural business challenges.

My Big Decision: Fons Trompenaars finds out what happened when, in his early twenties, he chose to leave behind his native Holland to study in the US – a choice that determined the rest of his career, as well as his personal life.

Every month, we will be posting another ‘My Big Decision’ from another leading name. So remember to check back at the end of June.

It’s a great opportunity to go behind the scenes and find out some of the individual stories, crunch moments and life-changing choices that lie behind some of the world’s leading business people and entrepreneurs.

How did the decision affect their future career? Why did they choose that path? What were some of the consequences – on them, on their business and on their personal life?

You can find the ‘My Big Decision’ series of monologues here. You can also subscribe to the series and view or listen to each one on your mobile device.

We’ll be adding more big decisions over the coming months. But what would yours be?

If you had to look back, what would be the one decision that has shaped who you are today?

As the online editor of Elevate, Grant Thornton’s new magazine for entrepreneurs, I look forward to hearing some of your own big decisions, the ones that have led to business success or new directions in your career. Or perhaps the ones that didn’t go so well. Sometimes big life changes can come down to just a few small moments…
