Which sectors are experiencing an increase in deal activity? And what types of buyers are the most active? In an interview with M&A magazine, Grant Thornton’s Stephen Baker provided his thoughts on the current UK M&A market and also makes a few predictions
In the interview with M&A magazine, Stephen Baker, head of the London corporate finance advisory team at Grant Thornton, says he sees the current M&A market as being characterised by consolidation deals, as companies seek to add assets at a time when prices are competitive.
“Generally we’re seeing corporate M&A as being stronger than private equity transactions at the moment, and I think that will continue. Many international buyers are looking at UK assets at the moment, and we’ve completed a number of deals with overseas buyers where the relatively low value of sterling is making the UK an even more attractive place than normal.”
He also comments that the recent increase in transactions has been more pronounced in the past six to seven months in the support services, healthcare and consumer products sectors, the latter including retail.
