The Financial Times, in association with Grant Thornton, are undertaking a survey of existing and aspiring non-executive directors in the UK to learn more about this unique sector.

Non-executive directors are being placed under the spotlight more and more since the financial crisis. From FTSE 100 companies to privately held businesses - there is still much to understand with regard to the extent of the benefit and experience non-executives bring to business today and what their duties truly involve.

From basic issues such as the recruitment process, remuneration and training to ascertaining what motivates and concerns non-executives in their roles, the effectiveness of their boards and looking at perceptions versus reality when undertaking their role - this survey, will provide a comprehensive view on non-executives today.
